Opening of the Exhibit "Memorias del Caucho / Revelaciones del Bosque Humano"

Last Wednesday, March 29, we inaugurated the temporary exhibit MEMORIAS DEL CAUCHO / REVELACIONES DEL BOSQUE HUMANO at the Place of Memory, Tolerance and Social Inclusion (LUM). The opening ceremony featured Alfredo Luna, vice minister of Interculturalism of the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, the director del LUM, Guillermo Nugent, and the exhibit curator, Wilton Martínez.

This art and history multimedia exhibit includes archival photography, original paintings by Amazonian artists Brus Rubio, Rember Yahuarcani and Santiago Yahuarcani, videos, 2D animations, projection mapping, and 3D installations. The exhibit is based on the film “Stories of the Amazonian Rubber Boom", produced by CAVP with the support of the Dirección General de Educación Básica Alternativa, Intercultural Bilingüe y de Servicios Educativos en el Ámbito Rural (DIGEIBIRA) of the Ministry of Education of Peru.

This is part of an effort to inform and educate the public about a key chapter of Peruvian history that is largely unknown by the public. One hundred years ago, the “rubber boom” left an indelible mark in the Amazonian region, changing forever the lives of its indigenous peoples and the way the rest of the country imagines the “jungle.”
